Cattle and Crops

Cattle and Crops 0.5: radial menu and new physics

The version arrives, and with it, the new radial menu supposed to revolutionize the ergonomics of the game especially during a gamepad game.

I will spare you straight away long speeches. If I had to summarize in one image the famous revolution, it would be this:

Cattle and Crops is not Farming Simulator, let alone Pure Farming. The game offers to interact with vehicles and tools in every detail. Doors, windows, hitches, headlights, cabin lighting, transmission … everything goes and there are not enough keys on an Xbox or PlayStation pad to control everything. Also MasterBrain Bytes had the false good idea to integrate a radial menu system to have all the functions under the elbow. Let’s say it right now, there are TOO many functions, and we can not stop scrolling through the sub-menus of this wheel to find the one we need. The idea is good, but it would have been necessary to integrate only the essential functions. Who actually uses the windshield wipers or repositions the steering wheel?

This menu could have been lightened. It would have been enough to regroup the main functions. Who really uses windshield wipers?

Worse, when opening the menu, the camera, which is normally managed by the right stick, switches to the left stick. We find ourselves in the menus of this famous wheel with the camera that twirls in all directions. After 5 minutes, the only idea that comes to mind is to disconnect this damn joystick!

The keyboard mouse pair continues to be the best way to enjoy this game that is still evolving in the right direction. Moreover the radial menu opens with a central mouse click … ouf, here we are saved! And precisely on the evolution side, apart from this “ergonomic” system that still needs to be adjusted, the game is back on track. The workers are able to mow a meadow in total autonomy, and physics of the game has been improved with the passage on PhysX 4. It is felt in the driving of tractors, which behave more realistically when you are harnessed in the front and the back.

The complete changelog is available on the developer’s website at this address.
